‘Imagine a realistic, modular LARP sabre that is as close to historical models as possible. With innovative materials such as carbon cores, industrial foam, latex-free, our sabre not only offers authentic design, but also maximum durability and safety. Perfect for larpers who value attention to detail - whether for historical re-enactments, fantasy characters or pirate adventures.’

From idea to reality: your wishes come true

I have been a passionate LARP player and craftsman for over 20 years. When I started LARP in 2001, the blades were still massive, heavy - often up to 3 cm thick. It was clear to me that there had to be another way. I wanted weapons that were not only safe, but also looked like real swords.

Over the years, I worked tirelessly on development, tested new raw materials and utilised innovative foaming techniques. In the process, I kept coming up against a major problem: curved rods were hard to come by. Thanks to a collaboration with a carbon expert, I was finally able to produce the first curved blades - starting with katanas, which were very popular with the community.
But that was just the beginning. I kept getting requests from the community: ‘Can't you also make sabres?’ These requests never left me. We spent two years tweaking, testing and optimising the design. And this year the time has finally come: we are presenting our new sabres - handmade, realistic and exactly as you imagined them.

The first prototypes were shown at this year's LARPCon games fair in Kassel, where they were met with great enthusiasm. Now we would like to offer this weapon to you - all the players who have been asking us for a realisation for so long.

Your wishes have inspired us and we look forward to finally opening a new chapter together with you. Thank you for your support - let's write history together!

Our LARP sabre: historical design meets modern technology

For years, we have listened to your wishes and worked on a sabre that not only looks authentic, but is also safe, flexible and customisable. The result is our unique LARP sabre, which combines traditional shapes with innovative technology.

Design & look:

Our aim was to stay as close to the original as possible. That's why our sabre is based on historical models - from cavalry to Tartar and pirate models. The realistic proportions and details ensure an authentic appearance. The slightly curved shape with additional back blade makes the sabre not only visually impressive, but also functional.

Materials & technology:

To ensure the perfect balance between realism and safety, we use high-quality carbon rods as the core - narrower than fibreglass rods, with the same stability. For protection, we use a new foam with high elasticity, resilience and durability. The prop is latex-free, which minimises the risk of allergies or reactions caused by heat, sun or sweat.

Special features:

A modular design allows you to customise the blade length, guard type, basket, handle and pommel to create your own unique larp weapon. You can even vary the weight depending on your choice of components to achieve a realistic balance.

Problem & solution
The problem:
Many LARP weapons are often heavy, not balanced or do not look authentic enough. Curved staffs that look realistic and are safe at the same time were hardly available. As a result, many players had to fight with clunky, unwieldy weapons - which made it difficult to immerse themselves in the story.
My motivation:
I wanted to develop a sabre that was not only safe, but also looked real. Above all, I wanted to respond to the wishes of the community: better shapes, more flexibility and customisation options.
The solution:
After more than two years of development, testing and close collaboration with manufacturers of various materials and the community regarding the design, we have found a way. Our sabre combines the usual stability of carbon with the resulting design for a narrow and realistic blade. A new foam makes the blade shapely and stable. The new formula is designed to help make the foam even safer. By completely avoiding latex, the sabre is resistant to influences which result in latex cancer.

Product details & features

High-quality carbon cores:

Our sabres only use carbon cores specially manufactured for this purpose. These are made from carbon fibre prepreg fabric in several layers, angularly offset with synthetic resin, processed into sheets under high pressure and temperature in our own moulds. The cores cut from this material are only half as thick as GRP (glass fibre) with the same stability. This enables the design of narrow, realistic-looking blades.

Lightweight & authentic design:

Due to the lower material weight, our sabres are lighter overall - which increases playing comfort. Our design is based on historical models, whereby we deliberately favour narrower blades in order to create weapons that are as realistic as possible.

Innovative blade materials:

We use a newly developed foam material with high resilience for the blade. It quickly returns to its original shape, is extremely resistant to cracking and yet soft enough to minimise injuries when used properly.

High-quality colouring:

Our colouring is done exclusively with pigments, FlexiPaint and acrylic paint - completely latex-free. This makes the prop more resistant to heat, UV radiation, moisture and sweat. A special colouring method reduces abrasion and ensures a long-lasting look without the risk of latex cancer.

Modular construction & customised design:

The sabres can be designed modularly on request. The blade length can be varied during production. You can also choose between different handles, guards, pommels, grip leathers and colours. For special requests, applications such as customised coats of arms are also possible to a limited extent.  In addition, your sabre can be individually weighted depending on the choice of components, which influences the taring and balance of the sabre and makes it easier to wield.

Prototypes & development

Over the past two years, we have carried out intensive material tests and continuously optimised them. During this time, various materials have been tested, modified and adapted to ensure the best properties for our sabres.

Before the final realisation of the current design, we made various props with the chosen materials, including swords, daggers, katanas and a few sabres. These were then subjected to extensive stress testing by players and staff. The props were not taken lightly - they were subjected to demanding operating conditions to test their resilience.

After several adjustments and fine-tuning, we were able to present our new sabre prototypes for the first time at LarpCon in Kassel this spring. The blade design and the overall concept were very well received by the visitors: All prototypes were sold out by the end of the fair.

Goals & use of funds

In recent months, we have invested considerable resources in material procurement, research and testing. The designs have been finalised and the 3D files for mould creation are available. Now we want to take the next step: production on a larger scale.

To enable cost-efficient production, it is necessary to use more materials and invest more time in manufacturing. By producing several parts in one process, we can reduce the unit costs, which ultimately also reduces the final price for you.

Our goal with this Kickstarter is to cover the upcoming costs for a more extensive production and thus be able to realise your wishes in high quality and in sufficient quantities. Your support will help us to realise this step safely and successfully.

If the Kickstarter raises more money than the set target, we will invest these additional funds in new developments. In this way, we will be able to offer you improved products on a regular basis in the future - always in revised and high quality.

Team & background

There is not just one person behind this project, but a dedicated network of experienced professionals and passionate enthusiasts, most of them involved in their profession at least 25 years or more. I myself have been active in the world of larp props for around 25 years - starting with the development and production of customised props just among friends and ending with self-employment 15 years ago. For almost two decades I have worked exclusively on exclusive customised products, learning from some of the most renowned minds in the larp scene.

My knowledge was significantly influenced by the exchange with old masters from Italy, as well as legends from Germany and France - some of these mentors are unfortunately no longer active today. This valuable experience and expertise flows into every single project. I greatly appreciate every opportunity to expand my knowledge and learn new techniques.

We also benefit from great support from friends in Ukraine and Poland. They help us both with technical expertise and with the realisation of various steps in the production process. Without the contributions of these dedicated people, this project would hardly be realisable in its quality and diversity.

Each and every one of these people has contributed to the fact that I can now work at a level that was unimaginable 25 years ago. Their knowledge, their experience and their passion are the basis for this project - I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere thanks.

Risks & challenges

Every project harbours potential risks and unforeseen challenges - be it in production, material procurement, shipping or other logistical aspects. In today's world, factors such as political circumstances, supply chain issues or health restrictions can cause unexpected delays.

To counter these risks, we rely on a broad base of experience and co-operation. As this project is not carried out by a single person, but by a team of several experts, we have already successfully overcome many problems. We have tried and tested processes and have learnt over the years to react flexibly to changes.

We are now in a much better position, especially when it comes to production planning:

- We have several contacts with different manufacturers and suppliers so that we can switch to alternatives at short notice.
- We work with reliable partners with whom we maintain a close and transparent dialogue.
- For customised products or special materials, we have several options up our sleeve to avoid bottlenecks.

Despite all precautionary measures, there is of course a residual risk - but thanks to our experience, our network and our flexibility, we are well equipped to quickly solve any problems that arise and ensure that the project progresses.
